About Us

The Civitan International Research Center is an interdisciplinary center dedicated to improving lives through brain research and the prevention and treatment of developmental disabilities. Founded in 1990, our staff of highly respected scientists, researchers and clinicians from around the globe is led by neuroscientist, Dr. Harald Sontheimer, and pediatric neurologist Dr. Alan Percy. The work and collaboration of the entire CIRC staff make a positive lifelong impact on millions of people around the world

Among the many program areas are mental retardation, autism spectrum disorders, treating brain tumors, neonatal seizures, constraint therapy, Rett syndrome, Alexander's Disease, Kernicterus and many more. CIRC's approach focuses on the overall development of the mind and forming a continuum from the laboratory to the clinic to the home and community.
